Tailor's rule

Description:

Brass rule or measure inscribed A MCMASTER  WIGTOWN 1836.  Both sides are marked in inches and the full length of the rule is 24 inches (61cm).

 

The rule was used for measuring and cutting bolts of cloth.  A McMaster was probably one of the town's tailors or cloth merchants.
