Printing Roller

Printing rollers were used to apply the repetative patterns that formed the borders of a piece of printed calico.   Around the cylinder behind the patterned stamp cylinder is an absorbant fabric which would be loaded with dye. This dye would be transfered to the pattern stamp as the roller was pushed along ensuring that fresh dye was applied to the pattern stamp with each rotation.
