Maybole "tackety" boots

Pair of "tackety" boots bought from Maybole shoemakers for Sydney McEwan, who died in 1974 at the age of 78.  The boots are good as new.  Mr McEwan was a slight man, and they were too heavy for him. Sydney McEwan lived in 21 Abbot Street, Maybole. He was lollypop man at "Pat's Corner", a popular figure and there was an article in the Ayr Advertiser when he died. From the article: Before he retired he worked at Kirkmichael Creamery for a number of years, before that with W. Houston, a former coal merchant in town.  The boots were donated by his oldest granddaughter, who was born in Abbot Street, Maybole, but grew up in Ayr.  She provided the following information.  He worked at Kultie Yown Farm (on main road, towards Kirkoswald), at night, weekends and holidays. At the same time, he worked at  Kirkmichael Creamery during the day.  He never left Maybole until about 1966, when he went to England for a holiday.  His family had been in the area since at least 1812. They moved from Girvan to Auchincruive, then went to Monklands, then to Maybole.  In 1824, his great-great grandmother was born in Maybole.
