Memorial of brave life given for others in the Great War

Description:

Hugh Watt was born in Glasgow and grew up in Saltcoats.  He was posted to the Western Front with the Cameron Highlanders and died of wounds on 13th September 1917, aged 19. He is buried at Harlebeke new British Cemetery, Belgium. 

 

 A plaquette, together with a letter and a scroll, was sent by George V to the next-of-kin of all British and Empire service personnel who died as a result of the conflict. The plaquette was designed by Edward Carter Preston.
