Hughes was a prolific author.  In addition to his work on Forward he wrote articles for newspapers as well as biographies of men he admired (Keir Hardie and Sidney Silverman) and others he strongly disliked (Winston Churchill and Harold Macmillan).  He published many pamphlets setting out his views on subjects such as nuclear disarmament, the Royal family, and political reform.
