Dean Castle Tapestries Collection

Millefleur tapestry fragment

Period:
17th Century
Description:

The 'Millefleur' style tapestry differs from many other styles of floral decoration seen in tapestries with a diverse selection of individual plants woven in no regular pattern. This fragment depicts a forest scene or enclosed meadow in shades of rich blues and greens covering most of the piece, whilst a small hind or deer curled up in the bottom left section seems to be overshadowed by the nature that surrounds it.
