Banqueting Hall curtains

It is believed these curtains from the Dean Castle Banqueting hall were acquired by Lady Howard de Walden, either when she visited Italy in the early 20th century or at auction circa 1930. There are similar curtains in the library at West Dean College, London. It is believed these too were purchased at auction in the 1930s. Similar curtains from a slightly later date are on display in the Wallace Collection, London.   Made up of a group of composite silk applique panels, linen with a silk velvet applique, woven and tube-lined with gold thread, the remnants of which remain. The material has been patch-worked together and there are no two identical.
