Dean Castle Arms and Armour

Swords

German military sword

Period:
16th Century
Description:

This long, double-edged blade with a sharp rounded point is mounted with a hilt that has slightly curved quillons. The heavy pear-shaped pommel is invariably larger toward the top, designed to balance the weapon as it  would have allowed the wielder to swing the sword with incredible force. The grip is quite long, designed to accommodate both hands which would have been required to wield it.
