Rococo-style small sword

This small sword is chiselled and cast in low relief with shell-like ornament and military trophies in early Rococo taste. The guard bears the mark of unidentified silversmith. The weapon's blade features a 3-edged hollow ground blade is etched with Rococo scrollwork.   Rococo, also known as Late Baroque, is the name given to the style which replaced the severe and heavy decoration of the reign of Louis XIV. Pretty, frivolous and always asymmetrical, it was characteristic of the reign of Louis XV and of Madame de Pompadour. Originating in France, the style spread to northern Italy, southern Germany, Austria, Russia, and other parts of Europe.
