Leather embossed parade shield

Description:

This object is a leather embossed parade shield with a convex section that would have had a ceremonial rather than combative function. The shield has a circular wooden base which has been overlaid on both its sides with black leather.  The image in the centre of the shield depicts a pastoral scene with a man, woman, horse and three cherubic figures in the foreground. Around the central image in a band reaching to the edge of the shield are illustrations of  horned figures and humans surrounded by laurels.
