Dean Castle Arms and Armour

Pole Arms and Melee Weapons

Replica Jeddart staff

Description:

In defence of their Border region dwelling, the townspeople of Jedburgh (pronounced 'Jeddart' in Scots) were said to wield the imposing Jeddart staff to frighten away reivers. The Jeddart staff is a polearm with a long axe-like blade coming to a point above the haft. The hafts are generally around 4 foot tall, although like this object can be larger, and feature a handguard in the upper-central portion.

This replica was produced by Claymore Armoury, which has been producing weapons since the late 1960s in Ayrshire. It was constructed by Thomas Yeudall, a master swordmaker.
