Dean Castle Arms and Armour

Daggers

Dagger with equine motif

Description:

This dagger demonstrates the artistic flair of many armourers during the period when weapons passed from existing as a means of inspiring fear to inspring envy in fashionable civilian gentlemen. This dagger presents an exquistely decorated brass hilt with its undulating, beehive-like grip, mounted figures around the pommel, and quillons taking the form of hooves. The dagger's blade is perforated along its fuller.
