Arnioceras

Description:
This rock contains a huge amount of Arnioceras, a type of ammonite.  These fossils belong to a group of animals known as Cephalopods.  Today this group includes the soft-bodied octopus and squid, but many extinct animals had shells.  These shells acted as both protection and as devices to help the animals float in the water.  The best known of these animals are ammonites, which can be collected from many places around the UK.
