Fake scarab/sphinx

Description:

Trade in antiquities was very high, especially in the late 19th/early 20th centuries and many fakes and replicas were made to cater for the tourist market. The scarab and sphinx are well known symbols of ancient Egypt, but this combination and the meaningless hieroglyphs on the base indicate that this is not a genuine antiquity.
