The House in Dumfries in which Burns Died

This carte de visite style card is from a series of drawings used on W & A Smiths mauchline ware boxes.  The drawing is of Burns House and part of Burns Street, Dumfries.  There is also a newspaper cutting on the reverse giving an account of Burns' last years.   W & A Smith of Mauchline, Ayrshire developed the manufacture of transfer printed treen, or wooden ware which became highly popular as gifts and souvenirs. Later, they used photographs instead of transfers.
