Mauchline ware pill box

This pill box was made from a piece of wood that was cut by Jean Armour Burns from the bed in which Robert Burns died.  Pill boxes like these were originally ladies snuff boxes.  As snuff taking died out they became pill boxes.   The inscription on the piece of paper inside the box reads: "This box is made from a piece of wood cut from the bedstead by Jean Armour / that Burns died in. This box was made by - Nesbit of Mauchline / from whom I bought it / [signed] W [Carrick ?]"
