Creetown Quarry cutting yard

The cutting yard for the quarry at Creetown was located on the west or shore side of the road between Newton Stewart and Gatehouse of Fleet.  This view shows the two gantries for lifting and moving granite blocks.  The small sheds with sloping roofs are shelters where the quarrymen split the stone into setts, cobbles and other specific types.
