Nicolson's Wigtownshire Photographs

Clydesdale mare and foal

Description:
The photograph provides a reminder that agriculture has always been the economic mainstay of the area.  The Clydesdale mare proudly displays the saddlery and harness that have won her first prize at the Wigtown Agricultural Show.  Her foal, unlike her attendants, seems unimpressed.  At the time of the photograph it may have been the steading for the smallholding of Lochan Croft, situated across the road in the triangle of ground between the Low and High Vennels north of Lochancroft Lane.
