Fireplace in Banqueting Hall of Earl's Palace

Sitting near  St Magnus Cathedral and Bishop's Palace, Earl's Palace was built between around 1601 and 1607 for the cruel and tyrannical Earl of Orkney, Patrick Stewart. Earl's Palace was built after Stewart decided that the  Bishop's Palace was not fully suitable for his needs. After the Earl's execution for treason in 1615, the building was sporadically used as the residence of the Bishops of Orkney until the later quarter of the 17th century, when it became Crown property and later fell to ruin.   The banqueting hall of Earl's Palace was beside an inner and outer chamber and was set above a service basement and kitchen.
