Woman and Vase with Flowers

Little is known about the Glasgow painter Alexander Duncan or the sitter in this painting. The painting however bears strong compositional similarities to the painting The Reading Girl by the same artist, in the collection at Rozelle House Galleries. It would seem that the same sitter appears in both portraits but the difference in her attitude in the two paintings gives them are markedly different feel.
