Self Portrait of Charles Aird

Charles Aird's father ran a painting and decorating firm in Kilmarnock. Charles was made a partner in the firm but was also given the opportunity to study at Glasgow School of Art to pursue the interest in painting he had developed as a child. He developed his own unique style painting, mainly landscapes and the majority of these were of the area around Kilmarnock, although he also travelled abroad to Holland, Belgium and France.   Aird was a prominent member of the Kilmarnock Art Club. His work was much admired locally but he also exhibited regularly in Glasgow and, on occassions, further afield. He was elected a member of the Glasgow Art Club.
