Rowallan Castle

This painting, attributed to John S. McNab, shows a frosty Rowallan Castle. Since the original Rowallan Castle was built in the 13th century, the land and baronetcy has been held by the medieval Mure family, the Boyle family, the Campbell family, and the Corbett family, before returning to the Campbells in 1989. The southern front of the castle was constructed around 1562 for John Mure of Rowallan. Elizabeth Mure, wife of Robert II of Scotland is said to have been born in the castle
