It's Coming

Period:
20th Century
Description:

Teh's early training involved the traditional Chinese art of calligraphy, using a brush and ink. He combines this eastern heritage with an approach to painting influenced by the abstract expressionism which began in America in the 1950s. Both of these modes of expression have a spontaneity and physicality to them which Teh explores within this painting. In so doing he suceeds in fusing together something of the ancient east with a modernism which has its origins in the west.

Hok-Aun Teh was born in Malaysia but is based now in Glasgow. The Malaysian landscape remains and inspiration in his work and he has travelled in India and on the ancient silk route through Mongolia and the Gobi Desert.
