Thomas Corsan Morton was born in Glasgow and went on to study at the School of Art there. He is regarded as a member of the Glasgow School and painted at Cockburnspath alongside Guthrie, Crawhall, Henry and others in 1884 and '85. However, he cannot be said to have been amongst the leading innovators of this group - his work remaining quite conservative throughout his career. This is one of his later works painted just 2 years before his death.
