Barskimming

John Curdie was a painter from Kilmarnock. He ran a business selling artists' materials in the town which was on one occassion, visited by the leading Scottish landscape painter Horation McCulloch. McCulloch was impressed by some of Curdie's paintings on display in the shop and the two became friends. On further visits McCulloch made to the region the pair met up and painted together and Curdie learned much from his accomplished friend.   Barskimming is located near Mauchline in Ayr.
